Betty Ann Medema, age 92, of Lynden, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016.
Betty was born on Dec. 21, 1923 to Albert and Myna (Vos) Ten Hoor in Holland, Michigan. She graduated from high school in Grand Rapids and went on to Calvin College where she met her husband Everett. Everett and Betty were married on March 28, 1946 and had four daughters, Judy, Joanne, Susan and Sally. For 52 years, the family lived in Everett, Washington. In 2000 Betty and Everett moved to Lynden. Betty was an elementary school teacher and then worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Company as a sales woman.
First and foremost she loved Jesus and was a member of First Christian Reformed Church. She loved her family and friends and was a delight to be around. Betty volunteered at Project Hope and the Second Chance Store with her friend Norma. She loved her Saturday morning coffee time with her friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Everett; one sister, Millie; and granddaughter Judith Oquist.
She is survived by daughters Judy Medema of Anacortes, Joanne (Jack) Vanden Berg of Holland, Michigan, Susan (Bob) Shultz of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Sally (Bob) Cook of Lynden; grandchildren Amanda Allen, Zachary Allen, Eli Vanden Berg, Brooke Coney, Bethany Kole, Rob Shultz, Joe Shultz, Brady Cook and Emma Cline; and six great-grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 20 in Gillies Funeral Home. In honor of Betty, a memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, in First Christian Reformed Church, 1010 Front St., Lynden.
