Cecilio S. Luna, age 90, passed away at his home in Lynden surrounded by his children, two sisters and grandchildren on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016. Cecilio was born on Nov. 22, 1925, in Gonzales, Texas, to Felipe and Elvira Luna. In 1959, Cecilio moved his family to Lynden where they attended St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years. He enjoyed watching sports and working outdoors after having retired from Intalco with 25 years of service. He started his own raspberry farm.
Cecilio was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Elida Luna; son Cecil; infant son Gilbert; daughters Carmelita, Irene and Sylvia; great-granddaughter Shaylene; grandsons Ronnie and Daniel; numerous brothers and one sister.
He is survived by sons Marcelino “Marci” (Janie), Thomas “Tom” (Evelyne), Cecilio “Chilo” deceased (Jamie), Manuel (Sheri), Ramon (Carol deceased), Frank (Cindy), Leroy (Cheryl), Gilbert (Gloria) and Mitchell “Mike” (Linda); daughters Mary, Elida “Ellie” (Steve, deceased), Laura, Soyla (Ron), Viola “Vi,” and Michelle “Midge” (Adrie); 41 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren plus four on the way; two sisters, Elena “Nena” Garcia and Lucia Rojas; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
In honor of Cecilio, Rosary will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lynden, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, Jan. 28, also at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 205 12th St., Lynden, followed by a private family burial at Greenwood Cemetery.
