Richard (Dick) Joseph Carr, 84, passed away peacefully on Jan. 1, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family in Bellingham. Dick was born in Great Falls, Montana, on Dec. 13, 1939 to Joseph E. and Evelyn A. Carr. He met his wife-to-be, Karen (Kay), in the church youth choir when he was 16, and she was 14, and they have been together ever since. After graduating from high school, Dick furthered his education by obtaining his electrical engineering degree at Montana State University, Bozeman.
Dick and Kay were married on Aug. 26, 1962. They had their son, Greg, on Sept. 4, 1967, and their daughter Sheri on June 16, 1970. Dick served 20 years in the United States Air Force and retired as a major in 1983, settling his family in California. He and Kay retired in 1999 and moved to Bellingham, where they enjoyed living in the country.
Dick enjoyed rock collecting, gardening, and puttering in his shop. He loved walking on the beach looking for shells and rocks, and watching the birds and wildlife. He and Kay especially enjoyed spending time together, with family and with friends.
Dick leaves behind his loving companion and wife of 61 years, Kay, his daughter Sheri, his son Greg with wife Conni, and his granddaughter, Evelyn, brother John, several nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends and neighbors.
