Doug Vander Woude 

Douglas Vander Woude entered his eternal rest on Oct. 10 with his family surrounding him.

Doug was born to Peter and Cora Vander Woude on June 3, 1953 in Bellingham.

A lifelong resident of Lynden, Doug graduated from Lynden Christian High School and attended Everett Community College.

Doug married the love of his life, Mary Feikema, on July 28, 1977 and together they raised four children.  

Doug loved to stay busy and worked in various positions in the timber industry around Whatcom County before finishing his working career at Lynden Door.

In his retirement, Doug enjoyed sharing the gospel through the Seafarers ministry, working to serve the crews on ships that dock at the industrial ports in Ferndale and Blaine.  

A lifelong member of First Christian Reformed Church in Lynden, Doug served as both an elder and a deacon, as well as on various committees and ministry teams.

Doug’s passion for the gospel was evident in his concern for people inside and outside of his family. 

Doug is predeceased by his parents, Peter and Cora Vander Woude and father-in-law Frank Feikema. He will be dearly missed by his wife Mary, sons Brian (Carly) and Ben (Leigh); daughters Jenna (Chad Batts) and Carla (Kurt Keblesh); grandchildren Reagan, Lane, and Nathan Vander Woude, brother Lenard (Teresa) Vander Woude; mother-in-law Irene Feikema; and brothers-in-law Brent (Wanetta) Feikema, Milo (Cheryl) Feikema and Colin (Darla) Feikema, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at First Christian Reformed Church, 1010 Front St., Lynden, on Saturday Oct. 15 at 2 p.m..

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Reformed Church of Lynden, Lynden Christian School, or Whatcom Hospice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
