Jerry Edwin Kok passed away on Jan. 5.
Jerry was born on July 22, 1951 to Marvin and Alena (Lena) Kok. He spent most of his life in Lynden, with a brief stint in Hawaii.
When he returned to Lynden in 1994, he passionately pursued coaching youth sports, starting with his son Chas’ YMCA basketball team.
Over the last 27 years, Coach Jerry held significant roles in Lynden Youth Sports, where he served on the Board for 15-plus years, as well as coaching football, basketball, and baseball to multiple generations of athletes. Jerry was recognized for his volunteer work with the Sol H. Lewis award in 2018.
Jerry is survived by his wife Tracey of 17 years, as well as his stepsons TJ and Joe, his son Chas, daughter-in-law Jamie, and granddaughters Rian and Blake.
Jerry is preceded in death by his mother Alena, father Marvin, and sister Lavonne. He also leaves behind his three siblings Randy, Shelly, and Karla.
Jerry will be remembered for his dedication and commitment to helping others. He was a pillar in the sports community across Whatcom and Skagit Counties.
All are welcome for an open house with visitation and viewing in the Gillies Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, Jan. 13, from 6-8 p.m.
