Cody Hathaway Zander, age 52, of Everson, passed away on Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, at St. Joseph Hospital from complications of pneumonia.
Cody was born Jan. 21, 1967, in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Arlo and Brenda Hathaway. He was later adopted and raised by Ray and Linda Zander of Lynden.
Cody graduated from Lynden High School in 1985. He enjoyed FFA and his time on the field for Lynden High School football. After graduation he went on to Arizona Automotive Institute, earning certification in automotive repair. He worked for S&S Equipment and Repair in Everson. In 2004 he moved to Sumner, then back to Everson in 2018.
Cody loved hunting with his dog Rocky, guns, fishing, music, fast cars and all things mechanical. He enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden and the weekly trips to Lummi Island hanging out with family at the cabin.
Cody married Virginia Fochtman in 1991 and together had three children, Jonathan, Timothy and Mary. They later divorced.
Cody was preceded in death by nephew Kevin Fochtman; uncle Ken Pyeatt; and Rocky, his black lab and hunting partner.
Cody is survived by children Jonathan (Nicole) Hathaway, Timothy Hathaway and Mary (Drake) Niccoli; grandchildren William, Hailey, Katie and Arabella; special friend Regina Scott; his mother, Brenda Corey; his parents, Ray and Linda Zander; siblings Shane (Barbie) Hathaway, Shannon Hathaway, Tiffany (Mark) Hathaway-Guimaraes, Bob Zander, Tammy Zander, Chris Zander and Donald Zander; nephews Anthony Hathaway, Andrew (Ofa) Hathaway and Alex Hathaway; nieces Diana Zander, Ashley Zander, Michelle Zander and Kellie Fochtman; mother-in-law Gay Booth; brother-in-law Kevin (Cassandra) Fochtman; and lifelong friend Joe Hicks.
A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.
