Betty Lou (DeVries) Wigboldy went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Oct. 21, 2019. Betty was born on Aug. 14, 1932, in Munster, Indiana.
Betty and Homer, her husband of 66 years, served many churches around the country together while raising a family of seven children.
Because Betty was naturally gifted in music, she longed to serve her Lord already as a teenager and began to play the piano and organ in worship services, weddings, funerals, wayside chapels and for local care centers. She volunteered her time at church, local thrift stores and with the Stephen Ministries. Being an avid baker and having a servant’s heart, she made countless pies, cookies and bars for anyone who liked sweets. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the love for community by playing games of all sorts. Setting aside housework and responsibilities, Betty played cards and board games with anyone who asked. Many hours were spent in laughter while she attempted to shoot basketballs with grandkids, serve pingpong balls across a table net and shoot pucks into a shuffleboard slot.
Betty is survived by her husband and best friend, Homer; seven children: Carol Goyt (Todd), Brenda Fennema (Lee), Ken (Paula Tuinstra) Wigboldy, Shirley Steigenga (John), Linda Kamps (Bryan), Nancy Wolffis (Victor) and Susan DeJong (Harmen); 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her grandson Christopher Lee Steigenga.
The family thanks the caregivers at the Lynden Christian Health Care Center for the loving and gentle care of their wife and mother.
Family visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, in Gillies Funeral Home. The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Lynden.
