Johnny Clarence Hoogenboezem, age 59, of Lynden, passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018. He was known for his sweet and gentle spirit.
Johnny, the youngest of three children, was born in Galveston, Texas, on Aug. 22, 1959, to parents Gerrit and Lynn (Capelle) Hoogenboezem. In 1985 Gerrit retired and the family moved to Lynden.
Almost every day you would find Gerrit holding Johnny’s hand walking in the Homestead area. You see, Johnny was born developmentally disabled with Downs Syndrome, but he loved to walk, be outdoors and listen to music. When Gerrit was unable to care for Johnny and Johnny’s health was failing, Johnny stayed for a time in Heartwood Adult Family Home, Whatcom Hospice House and finally the Christian Health Care Center, where he passed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lynn.
Johnny is survived by father Gerrit; sister Joy Jonstone of Houston; and brother Gerrit Hoogenboezem of Bellingham.
